What Can Be Your Challenge?

Everything brings stress and is uncomfortable. Other people name it ‘misfortune, trouble’, and ‘problem’. However, these words are very negative and indicate helplessness. ‘Challenge’ gives you an opportunity to act.

The Universe will always create challenges for us. Sometimes they are the consequences of negative thoughts, words, and behaviour.

However, challenges are also testing that checks how well you master the values of light. For example, bankruptcy is the test of dealing with loss.

What to Do in Case of Challenge

Whatever happens, never say die, and stay passive. Avoid depression and stuckness. You are strong enough to overcome any challenge – yourself or with help of other beings, not only human ones. Set your mindset for victory by using these tools:

1. Practice Gratitude

It may be crazy to be grateful for the challenge. But you can thank for the opportunity to win again, to test your strength. Say ‘thank you to all the people, beings and other assets that will help you.

2. Stay close to Your Feelings, Unless They Are Painful

You can often find your feelings scary, cumbersome, and confusing. Therefore, try to keep them at a distance. Remember that you need to know your beliefs to find satisfaction, meaning, and pleasure in life.

3. Turn towards Reality

So often you turn away from life rather than towards it. What is more, you are the master of avoidance. If you want to be present, enjoy life and be more effective in it, focus on facing reality.

Doing so, you develop a deeper capacity to deal with life more effectively. What once was difficult is now easier and what once frightened you now feels more familiar. You will notice that life becomes more manageable. Live in the present.

4. Take Your Time

Do you remember the story of the tortoise and the hare? It tells us that slow and steady wins the race. By being in a hurry, you can thwart your success. You often get ahead of yourself.

And then you make more mistakes, cutting corners and paying for them later. You may learn the easy way but not necessarily the best way. The adage puts it like this: the slower you go, the sooner you get there.

Slow, disciplined, incremental growth is the kind of approach that leads to lasting change. However, the tortoise will also have to be smart. Being slow does not mean that you cannot manage your time or prioritise tasks.

5. Accept Your Life as It Is

Buddha taught that the secret to life is to want what you have and not to want what you don’t have. This rule is also taught by the present self-help gurus, and I agree with that.

While writing about acceptance, I insisted on following this rule because if you are ill and constantly ruminating on it, you miss seeing all the opportunities which emerge for you.

Many people will dismiss challenges that come before them. Thinking in the same way, you convince yourself that the challenge is smaller than it is or that it doesn’t exist in the first place.

Recognise when you start thinking this way and start noticing the real size of the challenge. Remember what some sages say: “The first step in overcoming a problem is admitting that you have one.”

Accepting that this challenge is real and that you are going to have to deal with it can be scary.

While fearing what this problem can mean for you, remember that so far in life, you had met every other challenge and made it out okay. There’s no reason to think that this problem is any different.

16 Steps to Tackle any Challenge

Before you start acting, prepare a strategy. This will need spending some time writing your ideas, so have your pen, diary, or journal ready. Keep them for future reference. Also, find a quiet place where no one will disturb you for a while.

1. Define the Facts

The first step of defining the strategy means evaluating your situation. Take some time to make sure that you understand the situation as fully as possible. Answer these questions in writing:

• What do you know about what’s going on? (How well do you know your problem?)

• Are you sure you understand the situation?

2. Make a list of Sub-Challenges

Your challenge is rarely one single task or problem. In most cases, it is instead made up of lots of different parts. Take your journal or diary again and list what else you need to overcome to win the main challenge. These will be your sub-goals.

3. Define Your Resources

Now define your tools of the trade. Simply write down five things which you already have or can use which will help you to solve your problem.

Examples: your strengths, the people that can help you and any physical resources you might have (like money, fitness). Also, remember about your mental assets, like creativity, persistence or staying focused on your goals.

Next, think about the areas in which you are weak and the assets that you lack. It will let you plan so that you can compensate or at least prepare in areas where something might go wrong. Make a list of five things which need compensation to solve your current problem. However, never dwell on them.

4. Define Who Could Help You

So, what can you do if you lack a given skill or resources? Here are some ideas: Talk to people, although who will depend on your situation. Remember that you have the divine strength and light within. Always believe that you can overcome the challenge, no matter how tough it is.

5. Find More Information

Apart from people and resources, you might need some information which will help you with the challenge. As some people, find information on Google or in books. Brainstorm where you could find this information and start looking.

6. Look at All Possibilities

It may turn out that there is more than one option that can help you to overcome the challenge. Then ask God for a cue and follow your intuition. Be open to more solutions than two and avoid black-and-white thinking.

7. Look for a Mentor

While facing a challenge, one thing you can do to tackle it is to find a mentor. It does not have to be a person; it may be a book or a website/book. You can also ask your Guardians, God, and other Higher beings.

8. Brainstorm Solutions

Brian Tracy suggests ‘The 20 Ideas Method’. Take a piece of paper and write your problem at the top. Then write down 20 answers, without assessing them. Do it now.

You must find 20 or more ideas for solving your problem. Otherwise, this method will not work. The last plans will be the hardest to guess, but they are usually the best solutions to your problem. Focusing on solutions will increase your confidence.

Exercise

take your journal and write down your challenge. Then brainstorm and list a minimum of 20 solutions to it. When you finish, pick up one of them that you will implement immediately. However, look before you leap, which means – preparing a strategy.

9. Keep Trying until You Find a Solution

The final key to dealing with challenges in your life is to just try it again. Be persistent. Otherwise, you will frequently find yourself unsuccessful in the things you do.

Sometimes the solution to a challenge is accepting the inevitable, like a chronic illness. Fighting to get rid of the illness will not help you. The reality is probably that you are stuck with it.

However, finding a sense of community and identity with others who share your challenge would solve this problem.

Also, learn how to embrace better and appreciate the good things that you do have in your life. Chapter Two contains the tools that will help you to accept your limits.

10. Meditate

11. Act

Acting gives you control over the situation. Helplessness and procrastination are the worst things you can do. Remember about your Divine Spark within, about the power of thoughts Having the twenty solutions, pick out the one which you want to apply and follow the next steps described below. Here are a couple of things that you can do to win your challenge:

12. Communicate

If the challenge that you are facing in any way involves other people, then you will deal with it by talking to other people. Most of our problems come up in the first place because we fail to communicate in the way that we should. What does it mean to communicate? Examples:

• Asking for help

• Reporting the problem, e.g., to the boss,

• Negotiating help

13. Use Your Mind

Visualise the solution that you have chosen earlier. Imagine that it works, and your challenge is overcome. Also, imagine that you have the strength to find another solution and win the challenge. On the other hand, do not ruminate on obstacles, the worst scenario or your powerlessness.

14. Be Flexible

When you face your challenge, being flexible will make a huge difference in helping you face the problem. Imagine yourself as a tree that has fallen into a river.

You can try to go with the flow, yet you’ll end up struggling and banging against every rock on the way. While going with the flow, change the direction in which the river wants to take you. In this way, you will glide smoothly until it carries you to a resting place.

15. Remind Yourself of the Positive Things in Your Life

You tend to forget about all the beautiful things that exist in your life when bad things happen to you, or when you are stressed. The world is a wonderful place no matter how bad things seem. Acknowledge the good things in your life. Remind the past victories over similar challenges.

16. Find Meaning in your Life

Having a goal or finding some greater meaning in your life, you will find it is easier to face any challenge because it gives you something to work towards or will inspire you and make you happy.

What to Do in an Emergency Situation?

You may say okay, but I don’t have time to write it down, I need to act now. That is fine. Quickly brainstorm your resources owned and needed and decide from where to start. Then act.

• What can you do right now?

• Where will I find help?

• How can I get it?

In a Nutshell

Today you have learnt 16 effective steps to overcome any problem. Define your challenge, brainstorm solutions, define your resources, find help in case you lack something, act and be flexible.
